How did you come up with the name Skinny Rooster?
While out shopping for a friend who had a rooster motif in her kitchen, I found a tall, elegant, thin metal sculpture of a rooster. It was absolutely beautiful, however, when I went to describe it, all I could think to say was "it’s a skinny rooster, and I know that doesn’t sound that great, but it is gorgeous!" . Months later when we were trying to decide on what we wanted the restaurant name to portray. Our dilemma was to find a name simple and quaint enough that our customers would feel comfortable coming dressed casually and relaxing, but would also find the atmosphere surprisingly elegant. The parallel was so similar to the skinny rooster I had seen that it was a perfect fit!

How did you come up with such unusual recipes?
The recipes are the result of a true love affair with food. The hardest part was limiting the menu to just those items. I guess that explains why our specials are constantly changing. The creative challenge has been the most exciting part. We wanted a restaurant that had the kind of food that was beautiful, yet addictive and had creative touches that you might never think of at home.

Parking seems kind of tight. Where do we park?
Right now we have complementary valet parking because we realize that parking is tough. We are working with the city of Largo on more parking. There is also a public parking lot just South of us about 50 yds. We appreciate your understanding and will have more parking within the year.

Why only breakfast and lunch?
This was definitely a family decision. Restaurant hours can be hard on a family, especially one with two young boys. The private party option allows Steve to do what he really loves; the formal gourmet food, but the daily hours have given us the freedom to be a family again. We are not writing dinners off all together, but for now we are focusing on doing what we do well, and our customers seem to agree.

What about the look of the restaurant?
Our goal was to give the feel of a modern art gallery with food as the primary medium. Food is one of the most versatile art mediums because it gives the patron the opportunity to personally enjoy their own masterpiece. It is our belief that dining should be a total experience, which is why we emphasize the presentation as well as the food itself.

How long have you been open?
We reached our one year anniversary this March. We couldn’t be more pleased.

What are your plans for the future?
Look for a Skinny Rooster near you. We love our out of town guests and hope to honor their requests by looking for other locations. In the mean time our focus is to provide you with a delightful experience each time you visit.
